Diagnodent™ Laser Cavity Detection
A Diagnodent™ Laser Caries Detector is a machine that uses laser dentistry technology to look inside teeth to detect cavities. It is one of the best new dental inventions to ever become available!
It works like this...it gives a reading on each tooth from 0-100. The number corresponds to the depth of decay on a carious tooth. If the tooth has no decay the reading is a 0. Decay to the nerve gives a reading of 100. Anything in between are different depth cavities. The Diagnodent™ eliminates the guesswork in detecting decay and allows the dentist to eliminate decay earlier with smaller fillings.
Recent studies have shown the Diagnodent™ is 99% precise as compared to the old fashioned explorer- "the pick" which is only 25% effective at diagnosing and locating decay. The Diagnodent™ makes our diagnosis of your decay extrememely precise. Our hygienist Kathleen records the Diagnodent™ readings at every cleaning appointment, then Dr.Wiebe follows with the diagnosis.
Intraoral Camera-
The intraoral camera allows you to see what the dentist sees. An intraoral camera is a small tv camera fitted onto a wand. By placing this inside you mouth, your dentist can explore and record images of your teeth. You have a first hand tour of your mouth to better understand your dental concerns. We can then explain you dental needs more effectively.
Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, oral cancer screening of the cheeks, tongue and surrounding soft tissues, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Included is a complete cavity check using the Diagnodent™ Laser Cavity Detector.
We will also take x-rays, which includes the panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth as well as the bite-wing x-ray series for proper diagnosis of possible interproximal decay of posterior teeth.
